Coggins Test

Coggins Test

A Coggins Test is a simple blood draw test taken by your veterinarian that checks for equine infectious anemia or EIA. The average turnaround time for the test is one week and the test is commonly valid for one year. Your horse will need a Negative Coggins test in order to be hauled with Ridgeview Equine Transport. Transportation must be completed before the Coggins test expires. â€‹

EIA is a highly infectious viral disease that can even present itself asymptomatically (no visual signs of illness).  EIA symptoms can range from fever, lethargy, increased breathing and heart-rate and swollen limbs.  EIA is naturally transferred between equines through biting flies, but NOW it is most commonly spread by human-facilitated transmission.  This means the virus is spread by unclean or re-used needles and syringes, blood transfusions, and contaminated instruments, such as IV sets, dental instruments or even tattoo equipment.  Unfortunately, there is no treatment or vaccine for EIA, which is why a Negative Coggins test is so important, and legally required for state to state movement.

Health Certificate

Health Certificate

A health certificate is also known as a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection or CVI.  This is an official document that proves a horse has been examined by a veterinarian recently, and at the time of the inspection, your horse had no obvious signs of illness or injury. This is required for both intrastate (within a state) and interstate (from state to state) travel.  A standard CVI is valid for 30 days from the date that it was issued. Transportation must be completed before the CVI expires.

Shipping Agreement and Waivers

Shipping Agreement

Upon booking with Ridgeview Equine Transport we will email you our shipping agreement and waivers. We use Docusign to make this process as simple as possible. No printing, mailing or losing paperwork. Simply open our Docusign paperwork email and we can get you digitally completed.

Brand Inspection

Brand Inspection

Certain states require a brand inspection before your horse can be transported intrastate (within a state) or interstate (from state to state). A brand inspection does not necessarily mean that your horse has or needs a brand.  The brand inspection is a long historical practice to establish or prove ownership and the earliest recorded brand in the United States was in Texas in 1832. We will need to make sure that your horse has been brand inspected, if needed, before transport.  The following states require a brand inspection. Please click on each state to learn more: â€‹

~ North Dakota

~ South Dakota

~ Utah

~ Washington (if change of ownership AND leaving the state)

~ Wyoming

Reservation and Booking Fee

Reservation

Once you have completed our shipping agreement and waivers, we have received your coggins, health certificates, and potentially your brand inspection information - we are able to finalize your transportation reservation and schedule our arrival date and time for pickup.  There is a $200 booking fee that we require at time of reservation.  The hauling fee, minus the $200 booking fee, will be collected upon your horse being loaded for its trip.  We accept payments in cash, check, PayPal, Zelle and major credit cards.
